GREIFENBERG -- Minister of State Joseph Hilger confirmed today that HRH Grand Duke Paul will visit the Republic of Albania from 17 to 29 September.
Although the trip to the former communist nation is a private affair, according to Hilger, the visit nevertheless carries with it great symbolism. “HRH Grand Duke Paul's planned visit to Albania in the second half of September symbolizes the growing importance that ties to Balkan peninsula holds for the Grand Duchy of Greifenberg in the 21st century,” according to Mr. Hilger.
The visit will be the first to the Balkan peninsula for HRH Grand Duke Paul and will allow him to see firsthand the progress Albania has made since abandoning communism in 1992, and serve as a platform to advance interest in the Grand Duchy of Greifenberg and micronationalism in Albania.
“HRH Grand Duke Paul’s visit to Albania,” Hilger explained, “represents an initial step in Greifenberg’s expansion of its international role in the Balkans. It is hoped that this trip will allow us to engage in building reciprocal respect and collaboration with the Albanian people.”
Albania has been a potential candidate for accession to the European Union (EU) since January 2003, and it formally applied for EU membership on 28 April 2009. Albania joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO/OTAN) on April 1, 2009.
