GREIFENBERG, 18 May 2008 (GPA) – The permanent members of the League of Small Nations (LSN) voted on 16 May to admit the Grand Duchy of Greifenberg as its fifth member state.
State Foreign Minister Joseph Hilger said that Greifenberg’s accession to the LSN “represents a significant development” in the grand duchy’s foreign policy. According to Hilger, Greifenberg's invitation to join the League of Small Nations "is a direct result of talks between HRH Grand Duke Paul and H.E. President Baugh during HRH the Grand Duke's State Visit to Molossia in April."
Mr. Hilger emphasized that "the LSN represents a mechanism through which micronations can promote the capacity of and foster cooperation among international and intermicronational institutions." The foreign minister explained that "Through its Permanent Mission to the League of Small Nations, Greifenberg will support democracy, good governance, human rights, equality, the rule of law, an effective market economy and sustainable development.”
To celebrate Greifenberg’s membership in the LSN, on Saturday, 17 May, Martha Petersen, director of GreifenbergPost, announced the decision to issue a new postage stamp to commemorate the event. The Greifenberg LSN stamp will be issued later this year.
