GREIFENBERG – Recent comments by Joseph Hilger, Head of Government, suggest that reforms in the organization of the grand ducal government, including a reduction in the number of government ministers may soon be underway.

During a brief statement following a meeting with HRH Grand Duke Paul, Hilger said he received from the grand duke “positive suggestions” for the reorganization of the grand ducal government and a reduction of the overall number of ministers and advisors.

Critics of the government immediately argued that the move is too politically contentious an issue to be attempted so soon after Hilger’s appointment as head of government. "I am aware that the possible reduction in the number of ministers will be a politically contentious issue,” Hilger observed. “I am equally aware that this is a matter of genuine need and that reorganization and a reduction in the number of ministers must be undertaken. The government accepts that in this difficult economic period, it should be seen to be leading by example. A reorganization of the government, together with a reduction of the overall number of ministers is more than mere symbolism or political posturing. The public can be assured that the matter is receiving my active attention. I expect to soon be in a position to announce more details in the government reorganization plan," Hilger concluded.
