MINISTRY FOR CULTURAL AFFAIRS, EDUCATION, NATIONAL IDENTITY, HEALTH AND SPORT
“The national identity represents the full image and expression of Greifenberg’s presence, values, traditions, culture and national language. Thus, it is critically important that we pursue a national policy that strives for strengthening the meaning of national identity in the Grand Duchy of Greifenberg.”
Cultural Affairs and National Identity
The ministry exercises overall responsibility for the administration of cultural affairs within the Grand Duchy of Greifenberg. Regarding the cultural life of Greifenberg society, the Government pursues a policy designed to instill, safeguard and promote social awareness in the public sphere. With this aim in mind, a sustained effort is being made to enhance the awareness and appreciation of Greifenberg's cultural heritage, to present and promote this heritage, to raise the cultural standards of the people by organizing cultural activities, and to project the right image of Greifenberg’s cultural identity through all forms of art.
The ministry funds activities meant to develop a national identity through the popularization of our national symbols. These symbols are our identity and our heritage that can develop a sense of belonging among all its citizens. However, in establishing support for the cultural sector, Greifenberg favors the "arm’s length" model. According to this model, the Government owns and funds cultural agencies and appoints their governing boards, which are required to perform functions prescribed by law or statute. Within the limits of the law or statute, each agency acts autonomously in determining and implementing policy. At the same time such activity must have regard to central government policies. The model allows the sector to develop without undue government interference, and therefore serves to protect freedom of expression.
The National Library of Greifenberg is the official repository for all Greifenberg publications. The role of the National Library is to collect and maintain literature and information resources that relate to Greifenberg, to make this information readily available and to preserve the documentary heritage of the country for future generations.
Education
The objective of the ministry is to provide educational and cultural opportunities for further education and to strengthen national culture and to promote international and intermicronational cooperation. The ministry also handles tasks related to policies, administration, operation, coordination and interaction etc, and plays an important role in the libraries and archives, as well as culture and the arts.
Health
The ministry directs and guides the development and functioning of policy on health care and social welfare. It defines the main lines of social and health policy, prepares legislation and key reforms and supervises their implementation, and handles the necessary links with the political decision-making process. Prevention and health promotion are also part of the Ministry’s remit.
Sport
The Government promotes sport in its broadest aspects. Such efforts help raise Greifenberg’s recognition abroad and contribute to a positive image of the country. It therefore goes without saying that the Government is committed to fulfilling its sport policy responsibilities.
