National Flag of the Grand Duchy of Greifenberg

The national flag is the symbol of the government and people of the Grand Duchy of Greifenberg.  The flag may be flown on any day of the year. It is particularly appropriate to fly it on days of national commemoration such as National Day, the Day of National Remembrance and on other important occasions.
The national flag of the Grand Duchy of Greifenberg has three equal horizontal bands. The top and bottom bands are royal blue and the center band is white. In the center of the flag is a double-headed eagle with a small coat of arms superimposed on its chest.

Royal blue and white are the heraldic colors of the House of Greifenberg. The width of the flag is two-thirds of its length, or approximately two meters by three meters. The flag is hoisted in front of the ducal residence, government buildings and Greifenberg diplomatic and cultural missions abroad.

This flag was officially adopted on 14 October 2009.

                                     National Anthem of the Grand Duchy of Greifenberg

The national anthem of the Grand Duchy of Greifenberg is “Greifenberg How We Adore Thee,” with lyrics by Peter James Gale (2006).  The melody comes from the old Austrian imperial anthem “Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser” (“God Save Franz the Emperor”) by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) and which was first played on February 12, 1797.

Greifenberg how we adore thee,
Founded under radiant sky;
Bound in loyalty and fealty,
We your people unified.
Noble hearts of inspiration,
Move towards our common goal;
Fierce we cry our declaration,
God and Duchy to uphold.

Souls and strengths remain devoted,
To our land with grand designs;
Resolution never wavers,
Fate upon us proudly shines.
From the forests and the meadows,
To the valleys, nature’s pride;
Filled with life and endless beauty,
Glorious land where we reside.

Pray for peace and cherish freedom,
These our fatherland provides;
Here we raise our sons and daughters,
They the future, we their guides.
Our Grand Duke in peace to reign,
Dwell in our free land so pure;
Flourish now, and we shall prosper,
Forever may our land endure.
